MKIV Supra with 300k Miles

Wow, what a testimony to Toyota engineering and reliability! Supraforums member StarletGTT posts an account of his Supra hitting 300k miles - this from a car reknown for crazy single turbo conversions and putting out unholy amounts of power on the stock 3.0L bottom end.

While it's not entirely uncommon to see imports hitting 300k miles, its rare to see any performance-able specimens doing so.

If you have a high mileage performance-beater, feel free to share details in the form of a comment below.

Daily Clean - 1G Mitsubishi Eclipse

After a certain period of time, most cars will reach "beater" status as they age, fall into disfavor, and invariably decompose, all while providing their owners with cheap, (emphasis on cheap), semi-reliable (emphasis on semi) transportation. The 1G DSM has reached the stage AFTER beater status, which makes it all the more surprising to find one this clean. Evolutionm.net user Kook picks up this 1990 Eclipse GSX off a used car lot after being smitten by its cleanliness. Its hard to believe that shortly after acquiring it, the eclipse still required $2500 in rust removal and a new turbo to boot. Caveat emptor!

2008 Liberal Albero Kit for WRX/STI

As far as aftermarket body conversions go, this is a pretty clean kit. Note the enlarged front openings, and provisions for dual exhaust in the rear. More pics from Fishdizzle over at All Wheel Junkies.

Daily Clean - Team Nextstage ST 350z

With 350zs running rampant everywhere in great abundance, its become quite a challenge to build a 350 that isn't played out or just plain lame (billet front grills, anyone?). Jtuned user MethodRN posts some pictures of a well executed specimen of a Z. Note the Volk wheels, Bride interior, and Project Mu brakes, and some $$$ invested where it counts - forced induction under the bonnet!

JDM Unobtanium - Mugen High Performance Airbox for RSX

Club RSX member JayDM-'06 details the acquisition and installation of his latest goods from King Motorsports - a Mugen High Performance airbox. Keep in mind, this is just for an airbox - it's not even a complete intake as you can see the factory rubber intake pipe is retained. In a nutshell: it's clean, its rare, its handcrafted from heat-soak free fiberglass. Oh yeah, and it's $700 fracking dollars!

New & Interesting Forums - The Time Attack Forums

Making its debut in late march of this year, the Time Attack Forums are dedicated to all things Time Attack. Essentially, a ton of guys devoted to building machines designed to do one thing - lay down the absolute fastest lap time, physics and common sense be-damned!

Daily Clean - 1967 Nemesis Mustang

What more can we say? It's clean. It's vintage. It's packing enough rubber to shod four other cars. This particular pony car has been brought into the 21st century in almost every aspect, including an updated interior and Roush 427 smallblock. Tons more pictures here.

Base Model V6 2010 Camaro To Make Over 300hp

It looks like GM is poised to deliver some automotive value and giving Nissan some 370z competition with the upcoming base model camaro that packs a 3.6L direct injection v6 under the hood. This will let the entry level Camaro buyer walk away with over 300hp without having to pony up the extra dough for the V8 models and undoubtedly jumpstart the aftermarket support that is probably already brewing for this car.

It's not going to be quite as fast as the 370z nor handle as well, but will probably come in quite a bit cheaper.

Some additional photos and details at the camaro5 forums.

Daily Clean - Lexus IS-F HDR Shots

M3post member ngl1145 (although we've sworn we've seem him post this on more than one messageboard) posts pictures of his stock, but oh-so-clean Lexus IS-F. Blue skies + black car + HDR = incredible reflections.

XS Engineering Straps Nissan GTR to the Dyno

Eric Hsu and his merry band of time-attack-tuning-junkies over at XS has teamed up with Carter Jung from Import Tuner Magazine to bring you one of the first GTR dynos stateside. All things considered, the 412awhp/388 lb-ft of torque its pumping out is pretty impressive. The HP curve climbs all the way to redline with a nice flat torque curve starting at 3000 RPM.

Daily Clean - OEM Clean S14 Kouki

S-chassis.com member 240's"r"us posts pics of his charcoal grey kouki 240. We find it hard to believe that a) it's eleven years old and b) relatively unmolested.

GTR Production Numbers Official

According to Car and Driver, Nissan may be increasing output on the 2009 R35 GTR to 2400 units a year, up 900 from the previous estimate of 1500. While that may be good news for those who didn't get their deposit in on time or refuse to pay the ridiculous dealer markups, Nissan North America plans to allow demand to outstrip supply. Better act quick, as 1400 cars have already been spoken for.

Daily Clean - Socal Soarer Style

Hondatech member cruiseMain posts some pictures of a set of Soarers (better known to you and me as the SC300/SC400) cruising down the coastline. With all the shine and every rim sporting more lip than Angeline Jolie, it's hard to believe that these things haven't been made in over ten years.

Subaru Legacy STI S402

Mazdas247 member mikeyb has posted a ton of images of the upcoming Subaru Legacy STI S402. Note the massive six pot front calipers, bilstein suspension, and IHI turbine. With the mixed reviews of the new WRX-STI (image-wise), this is definitely one Subie to look forward to - especially in wagon trim!

2008 One Lap of America Results Posted - Honda Odyssey FTW WTF?

Spanning many venues over several days, One Lap is _the_ event all automotive junkies should aspire to. With its hectic timelines and demanding events, One Lap pushes both car and driver to the limit.

Take a look at the results here.

Not surprising:
Top two spots are occupied by a 911 and a Viper.

Interesting:
10th place is occupied by an STi
11th place is a 2009 GTR

VERY Surprising
Coming in at 26th place with 4370 points is Brad Buchanan, Paul Street, and Steve Manley in the turbo Honda Odyssey sporting a 6spd Acura TL gearbox and a Garrett GT35R. More details on the orange beast here.

Daily Clean - Evo X On TE-37

As you can tell, we've got a sick, dirty, lust for anything Volk Racing. Jtuned forum member Archiebabes is one of the Evo X pioneers (aka people who sleep on bags of money) with this particular specimen. Archie's X comes complete with a plethora of bolt-ons, as well as almost every Ralliart trim piece in the book, BC Racing coilovers, and 18x9.5 Volk Racing TE37's in bronze. Clean!

R35 GTR Runs 11.1 With Haltech ECU

The GTR Blog has details on the inroads Haltech has been making with the new R35. Apparently, after cracking the factory ECU in a matter of days, the engineers managed to prototype a full engine management system that handles ignition, timing, and fuel maps while the factory brain is relegated to managing ABS, ATTESSA awd, and various other accessories. Despite having the launch control shut down on them several times, they still managed a 1/4 mile run of 11.1@124mph! This is a standard GTR, full weight, stock exhaust with just a Haltech Platinum ECU on 93 octane pump gas. With a little more tweaking, they're hoping for a 10 second run in the near future.

Here's a video of the run:

Daily Clean - R33 GTR With Volk Racing TE37 Mag

With the upcoming R35 GTR taking top billing, this R33 isn't content to fade into obscurity. With a freshly rebuilt 500+whp mill under the hood and shod with ultra-rare-jdm-unobtanium TE-37 mag wheels, this GTR makes a timeless statement. Tons more pics posted by honda-tech.com user Hondizzle!.

Lamborghini Reventon Unboxing Pictures

My350z.com member TXSTYLE posts some pictures of someone taking delivery of a Lamborghini Reventon #1 of 20. Apparently it comes in a crate, on a truck, with its own crane, unboxing staff, and form fitting car cover. If you had spent that amount of cash, would you expect anything less?

eBay Find of the Day - S2000 with 2JZ-GTE Swap

The auction may have ended, but the description and the pics are still up - check it out while you can.

In a nutshell: 42k miles on a 2001 S2k, full 2JZ swap with GT45 single turbo and stock Supra 6spd getrag tranny. Seller claims this is the 6th (and latest) 2JZ S2k in existence.

It's a shame that it closed without meeting the $28k reserve (which IMHO is a steal for such a beast). The seller had also included a video of a 50-150mph run.

Daily Clean - Alpine White M6

We're introducing a new series called Daily Clean. Just good photography, clean cars, and great execution - nothing over the top.

To kick things off, have a look at 6speedonline user Vic55's M6 shot by photographer Auktane. Nothing like a set of HRE 20's to give it some presence.

Evo X Gas Pedal Made of Plastic, Snaps Off

EvolutionM.net user DRAG experiences some of the pains of owning a first year production vehicle when he cruises down the street, hits the accelerator and it SNAPS OFF. I'm all for saving weight, but if I had paid $40k for a car and the gas pedal broke off, I would seriously be reconsidering my purchase decision.

More Fuel on the GTR vs 911 Fire - GTR Overhyped?

There's a twenty-six page long thread on 6speedonline with a rapidly growing amount of evidence (some of which is anecdotal) claiming that the GTR, in production trim, in real world tests does not live up to the hype that Nissan and the magazines have been drumming up. After seeing numbers that seemingly defy the laws of physics (it's hard to move 3800lbs of portly Nissan around regardless of technology), I find this thread pretty interesting. There are claims of Caymans and 996 GT3's edging out Nissan's entry to supercar territory, in addition to quarter mile claims of 12.8@112 - MUCH slower than the purported 11.9@120mph that's been popping up.

What does everyone think?

370z - There's No Replacement for Displacement

Taking the cue from the infiniti G37, the 350z will be rebadged as the 370z when it makes its appearance at the Paris Motor Show this fall. The new moniker stems from an increased displacement (up to 3.7 liters) which will put out a speculated 330hp. Am I alone in wishing Nissan's naming schemes matched power output rather than engine displacement? A well-priced 370hp normally aspirated Z would definitely eat into C6 vette sales.

E36 Driver Almost Buys the Farm

It's one thing to be rocking wheels this hideous, but its quite another when one flies off and nearly kills someone on the highway. Bimmerforums user kpipalldaway2 has a brush with death as the wheel demolishes his windshield and nearly tears his roof off - just inches from where he was sitting. It's a shame, as this was one clean E36 before receiving the unsolicited cabriolet treatment.

Nissan GTR V-Spec Rumors of 684hp, GTR vs ZR1?

Aussie publication Drive has some ruminations on the upcoming Nissan GT-R V-spec (victory spec). Supposed differences from the bread-and-butter GTR is a 330lb reduction in curb weight stemming from the use of carbon fiber body panels and carbon ceramic brakes. Some aerodynamic and cooling changes round out the list.

Oh yeah - they're boosting output to ~684hp. You read that correctly - a two hundred additional horsepower. That's a lot of power to be wringing from an already overworked 3.8L powerplant, so the number is a bit iffy. If Nissan pulls it off, then this would give the upcoming Corvette ZR1 some considerable competition.

735fwhp D16 SOHC Honda Civic

Just another FWD Honda dragster you say? It may not do so well around corners, but keep in mind they're extracting over 700 ponies at the front wheels from a 1.6 liter, single cammed D16 originally designed to get good gas mileage and put down 1/10th the power.

Sentra SE-R With Turbo VQ30 Swap

FI-r user travis posts some progress pics of his Sentra complete with VQ30 swap (that's a 3.0 liter v6 for those unfamiliar with Nissan engine naming convention), a six speed transmission, and a custom turbo setup.

Got wheelspin?

10 Not-So Conventional Ways to Get Better Gas Mileage

It’s 2008 and the outlook is grim. There’s rampant inflation. Food prices are soaring. Offshoring is sending your jobs overseas. The whole sub-prime mortgage mess is threatening to leave you homeless. That last thing you need is to be spending $4+ a gallon on gas. Here are 10 lesser known things to watch for in your quest to maximize your vehicle's fuel economy.

Geiger Corvette Z06 Black Edition

There's something about the color black. Manufacturers and craftsmen pick this unassuming color to bestow a halo of value upon an object of desire. Johnny Walker Black Label. AMD Phenom Black Edition. You get the picture.

A post up at G35driver has a few choice pics of this completely blacked-out Z06 - the tail of which is very much F430-esque. What does everyone think? Keep the taillight treatment or lose it?

Nissan GTR Runs Nurburgring in 7:29 - Let the GTR vs. Z06 Pissing Contest Continue

Just when you were ready to stop calling shenanigans on the previous time of 7:38, those everyday-everyman-supercar-wunderkinds over at Nissan take godzilla back onto the 'ring (this time on a dry track) and shave a full 9 seconds - down to 7:29. That's within a second of the Pagani Zonda and the Porsche Carerra GT - both of which cost considerably more.

For those following the GTR vs. Z06 pissing contest - the vette took 7:42 to run the same stretch of track. Lots of factors can attribute to differences in lap times - tire choice, weather, what the driver had for breakfast. If you're off by a second or two, that is. A full thirteen seconds, however, is an eternity.

New Dodge Challenger SRT-8 Finally Seen in the Wild

There are a couple of snaps of the new Challenger SRT-8 in the wild, up on G35driver. It definitely captures the essence of the classic muscle car and stuffs it into something with all the modern amenities you've grown used to - real tires, brakes that actually stop the car - you know.. amenities.

New Revised FX35 and FX50 First Drive

CanadianDriver gets their mitts on the new 2009 performance sport-ute duo from Infiniti. While not drastically different, the revised FX has gained 35mm in the wheelbase and 43mm front track in addition to a few cosmetic changes. The FX35 gets a refreshed 303hp VQ that is purported to help it match the performance of the outgoing FX45. The new FX50 comes packing Nissan's new 5.0L V8 that thumps out an impressive 390hp.
